Osaka, ‘the nation’s kitchen,’ is Japan’s friendliest city and the country’s top spot to eat, drink, and party. It is also as quirky as a city comes. To the naked eye of a tourist, Osaka is a kaleidoscope of neon lights, kitsch trinket shops, and giant plastic food sculptures, but there are many opportunities to get below the surface and discover more of Osaka’s true character and its centuries-long history.
Wakayama is located to the south of Osaka. To Wakayama City, it takes 40 minutes by bus from Kansai International Airport and one hour by train from Osaka City.
Wakayama is full of attractions such as magnificent nature, traditional culture nurtured in a rich climate and a wide variety of foods.
Magnificent nature is imperative in introducing Wakayama. You can enjoy various beauties of the coasts facing the Pacific Ocean, as well as sceneries of lush mountains and clear rivers.
Not only seeing these natural attractions, you can also enjoy experiencing them. A variety of experience-based sightseeing opportunities are available such as traditional log rafting in the clear streams and cycling through the forests and along the coastline.
Wakayama is very proud to be home to the World Heritage Sites of Kumano and Koyasan.
There are three grand shrines called Kumano Sanzan. People believed that their soul would be ritually reborn when praying there.
Koyasan is a sacred place of Japanese Buddhism founded on the mountaintop. With over 100 temples in a small area, it is one of the largest spiritual sites in Japan.
Facing the Pacific Ocean, Wakayama is blessed with fresh seafood such as tuna. As well as seafood, many kinds of fruits are produced due to a mild climate. In addition, you can taste Wakayama Ramen, the best ramen noodle in Japan, and the original brand beef called "Waka beef".
